Forgiveness – A Gift That is Always Justified

Going through the text of the Completed and Annotated Edition of A Course in Miracles with the year-long reading program from the Circle of Atonement in their Course Companions program, I just read the retitled section “Forgiveness is Always Justified” which was called “The Justification For Forgiveness” in the Foundation for Inner Peace Editions. I like the new title, but they both connote the same thing.

I don’t think I have mentioned this before, but it took me more than fifteen years to read through the Text of ACIM in the FIP edition. I finished that, two January’s ago. Last June, I started the CE Edition which Circle of Atonement founder Robert Perry was the lead editor of along with other teachers from the Circle. I started that Text which has a lot of new material that was taken down in Helen Shuchman’s notes originally before they were edited out of what became the FIP Edition. Most of that material is in the first seven chapters.

I wanted to comment on Text Chapter 30 (“The New Beginning”), Section Six, “Forgiveness is Always Justified”, as I mentioned above. In this material is the classic rollout of ACIM-based forgiveness where we are called to pardon our brothers and sisters no matter what the circumstances so as to offer them a miracle and thus heal them of any guilt they might have felt over seeming to attack us. The section starts out by saying that “Anger is never justified. Anger has no foundation (1.1-2).” If what the author of the Course is saying is to be taken as true, then we have some major shifts to undergo in our interpersonal dealings with others.

When we feel attacked, we feel as if the other person should pay or that we should imprison them. But, we as spiritual people, tell ourselves “We need to forgive. We need to love so I can ascend or become more holy, even though you did something wrong and I am letting you off the hook for it.” This, the author of the Course says is not real forgiveness. Its as if, as Robert Perry said in his commentary on this section, we forgive through “gritted-teeth”, and with questionable willingness. Our motives under these conditions are not really about releasing the other person from something we thought they did to us, but trying to make an “error” we think they did to us “real” and try to pardon it. But what the author of the Course is trying to do in getting us to shift our perception about what ‘true forgiveness’ is, is to look at the supposed ‘sin’ they committed, then see that is wasn’t a ‘sin’ at all, and then even more, to look on a brother as innocent of any and all crimes we could have thought were perpetrated against us.

In the Course’s teachings on forgiveness, we are not just letting a person off the hook for something we thought they really did because we think it is the right thing to do. We are looking through “True Perception” and seeing that we could not be attacked and that we are called to pardon, what in actuality, never happened at all to us. How can this be so? Because according to the author, we were never harmed in the process of what may have looked like attack, therefore, anger is, as we mentioned earlier, never justified. Our only true response is to look upon the one we thought hurt us (tried to), and see that they are still innocent and there was no attack. I’ve heard people in Course circles call this “Quantum Forgiveness”.

What we are really doing under these pretenses, is healing the person who appeared to have attacked us of their guilt over the choice they made to try and hurt us. We all carry primal guilt over the first error, of trying to attack God when He didn’t respond to our request to seek special favor from him (to be elevated above others who He created). The guilt we feel when we attack another (though it may be repressed), is really the guilt we feel from having repeatedly rejected the Divine. Hence, when we judge, attack, or blame, we are in effect, really hurting ourselves, not the other person. So, we as the attacker, therefore need a miracle to be healed and released from guilt. This is where our brother or sister in spirit becomes our “savior”.

When we feel attacked, we are told by the author to say: “I thank you, Father, for Your perfect Son, and in his glory will I see my own.” By pardoning or forgiving, and seeing the glory and perfection of our brother or sister in spirit, we are seeing the Father’s glory in us. This is a remedy for sickness and distress, pain and guilt we carry around with us. It’s a hard thing to employ, but when we do, we both heal and are healed.

CHRIST REALIZATION YOGA – DAY # 64

DAY 64

I will remember my purpose here in this dream world, in a seeming physical body, surrounded by what seems to be form in action. I will remember to forgive all people and all apparent happenings, thereby extending the Creation, Communication, and Love of God that still resides in Paradise Oneness.

I will not wander in the desert wilderness of temptations. Nor will I fail the test that the ego-ahamkar places upon me, trying to challenge my faith in the ability to offer miracles of forgiveness and thereby, the correction of the Atonement or At-One-Ment.

The world challenges me with opposition, trying to cloud my one true purpose, trying to get me to forget the joy that forgiving brings. The ego-ahamkar tempts me to materialize moment after moment and call this appearance the Son/Daughter of God-Mind Presence, when it is not. The Son/Daughter of God is eternal and only assumes appearances in form that are fleeting. The physical body’s eyes simply look upon what doesn’t last.

The physical body’s eyes seem to see, but this is not sight. This is seeing masked behind temptation. Taking on a physical and material body was a temptation that arose out of a field of all possibilities and potential. I fell into matter. I chose this incarnation to work out and dissolve karma, born with samskaric-tendency impulses brought from past incarnations.

The Divine Mother, the Holy Spirit, Kundalini Fire and Desire Energy at the center of my True Being has an important purpose. To use avidya-illusions, the temptations to make form seem real and to turn the tables on them. To forgive them. The ego-ahamkar tries to convince me I have sinned, acting as an inner “accuser”, a “critic”, a voice of condemnation. The Holy Spirit lets me look upon what the ego-ahamkar calls sin and merely dissolves and undoes what never was in actuality. It looks on my would be sins and calls them mistakes to correct. To forgive. To release.

Looking back at the previous few lessons, my purpose while here on earth or in any other dimension I appear to be in is to be the Light, Liberation, and Love that shines away all darkness.  This purpose was an innate gift and responsibility from God Mind Presence. The ego-ahamkar is inflated by nature and would have me doubt this purpose, which is to forgive and bless. By fearing the ego-ahamkar, trying to make it real, I sometimes doubt my ability to extend love, offer miracles of forgiveness, and bring Liberation to the world. I can join in the effort with other messiahs by offering miracles of forgiveness to bring true and lasting freedom to this world, to help aid in the release from avidya-illusions of others and the ones I am responsible for, thereby taking the attraction of the manas-sense mind’s temptations to believe in what is false. Every mind and I are the Sons/Daughters of God, the one creation only appearing to be many.

I will remind myself to forgive, be the Light, to Love, and to Liberate in the morning, at night and all throughout the day. For everything I decide, I will make the pre-decision to offer miracles of forgiveness. My decision has the power to bring me bliss, santosha-contentment, or suffering. The decision is simple. I know what I need to do. I will not be deceived by the forms decisions seem to take, discerning, rather their intentions. I have but one choice. To choose in favor of form or in the truth that lies beyond form.

Today, I affirm these thoughts:

“I will remember my purpose here in this dream world, in a seeming physical body, surrounded by what seems to be form in action. I will remember to forgive all people and all apparent happenings, thereby extending the Creation, Communication, and Love of God that still resides in Paradise Oneness. I will refrain from replacing what I think is my purpose for God’s. I want to be supremely content.”

For one sitting, I will devote fifteen minutes with eyes closed, shutting out the external world, to contemplating this very idea. I trust that relevant thoughts will support me and my efforts to integrate the core meaning of this affirmation.

I will also commit to two shorter sittings, sometimes closing my eyes, and sometimes leaving them open, concentrating on thoughts that relate to the affirmation of truth. When I have my eyes open, I will say:

“This is the world that I am to Liberate, Love, and forgive. I see only sinlessness. I, therefore awaken to the truth of my being.”

CHRIST REALIZATION YOGA DAY # 60: (Review # 1: Days 46-50)

DAY 60

Today, I will review the following affirmations:

DAY 46

God Presence is Pure, Radiant Love and it is through and in this Love in which I forgive myself, others, and all things that appear to happen in this projected earth exile dream movie, dissolving all karma, fear, mental affliction, and guilt.

It is almost a difficult feat to overcome, to accept the belief that Divine Presence does not condemn and thereby has no need to expiate any wrong doings or unloving thoughtsI may choose to think or act on. The sick part of my mind wants to be tortured by the past and to pay for what I think are haneous crimes against God Presence and His/Her creations. I don’t cast aspertions because I have embraced the innocent lamb nature in me. I need do no penance, but I shall atone andcorrect errors in thinking. To forgive others for what I think they may have done or said allows me to see through Christ Vision, my untainted, unblemished True Christ Self. Forgiveness is an emanation and mirror image of Divinity Source’s Absolute Love in this unfolding world drama on the stage called earth. Releasing others from condemnation and judgment beckons me close to the Paradise state from which I began and will never end in, and the God’s sattvic-enlightening compassion can bridge the gap of separation and elevate me to the awareness of the Heavenly realm, my home.

DAY 47

In this moment, and in every moment of the Holy Instant of Now, I will give my complete trust to the Power, Glory, and Almighty strength of God Mind Presence, the Father-Mother, my Supernal Parent.

I extend mercy, forgiveness, and release to other through a power greater than me. God Presence as the Divine Father-Mother Syzygy provides the grace through which I know and recall the beauty of forgiving. I am starting to use my Christed sight and I thereby recognize Divinity radiating from heaven to this earthly dwelling place. I release all things from the burden of grievances and attack since I feel Divine Love pulsating through my mind-body complex. Today, I remember only Love, something I had dissociated from, but which never left me at the core of my being. I am life. I am love. And it is because of this that I can forgive and pardon.

DAY 48

I am fearless. I fear no one, no thing, no thought, or any outside force. I am safe. I am free. I cannot be threatened or harmed by anything, nor any avidya-illusion created by mayaic-delusion and duality coming from the split, individual ego-ahamkar mind.

Through the gift of sight, I see the harmlessness of the world. Through Christ Vision the world appears transfigured in the light of endless Love. What I have seen in it up to this point is but a fragment of the whole and complete picture of eternity reflected through Divine goodness seeing through my Christ Eye. All people I share this dream with along with everything that I see in its actuality and pure wholeness will me magnetically drawn towards me, giving me its Shakti and inspiration to rise up within me. Everyone is a mighty companion on this journey home. There is nothing at all to fear in this dream movie that was over long ago, but which I am viewing seemingly for the first time, since I have helped release and soften karma in it, and others have helped to release and soften karma in me.

DAY 49

If I but listen, and I be but still, quiet, and in a state of conscious mental rest, I will hear God Presence’s Voice and guidance which speaks to me throughout my entire day, every day, all the time as a manifestation of the One Reality of Cosmic Yoga-Union.

In every moment I am redeemed, though I was never condemned to suffer from any kind of wrath or eternal torment. Divinity Power in my Supernal Parents invites me to forgive, daily and in every moment. Responding to this, I am liberated from affliction and karma. In every minute of the days that pass by like scenes in a movie that appear and disappear, my Father-Mother inspires my thoughts to be holy and pure, while informing the choices I make through my behavior. I vow to travel on the path of Satya-truth. This is the only path for me to walk on because my Source’s Voice is the one and only guiding light that has been planted within my Sacred Heart, burning steadily and helping me to awaken.

DAY 50

Divine Love, God’s Infinite, Unending, Undying, Everlasting Life and Love, is my spiritual umbilical cord, reaching from the One True Paradise Within, the Kingdom/Queendom of Heaven. This gold and silver cord carries my life force energy that supplies me with all the strength I need to give, extend, and return Love to my Source and all of manifest creation. My aura and astral energy body are empowered by the Infinite causal mind and body of thought and ideation, and from the astral mind and body comes the life essence that sustains my temporary body vehicle and its sense-mind interpreters of materialized form, trying to make sense out of an existence of multiplicity made by subjectivity and mayaic-delusion.

I listen to my Source’s guidance within and am connected by the frequency of Love activated in my mind through spirit. As my Christed Third Eye opens, Divinity’s Love illumines the mayaic dream movie for me to see in its innocent nature. I forgive and release today through that Love Divine as I recall that every Child of God Presence remains untainted from the folly and avidya-illusion of sin. I look upon the dream world with Christ Vision, being transmitted to me from my Source’s circuity and causal, ideational thought waves, and I thereby stand in remembrance that I am also a Divine Child, an emanation of radiant light.

Teach Only Love, Even When You Are Being Crucified

“The message of the crucifixion is very simple and perfectly clear”:

“Teach only love, for that is what you are.”  (ACIM.CE.T.6.I.20:1-2)

The quote from above in the CE Edition of A Course In Miracles is followed by:

“If you interpret it {crucifixion} in any other way, you are using it as a weapon for assault rather than as the call to peace for which it was intended. The Apostles often misunderstood it, and always for the same reason that makes anyone misunderstand anything. Their own imperfect love made them vulnerable to projection, and out of their own fear, they spoke of the wrath of God as His retaliatory weapon. They also could not speak of the crucifixion entirely without anger, because their own sense of guilty had made them angry.” (ACIM.CE.T.20:3-6)

This comes directly out of the section of A Course In Miracles, which I believe to be a revelation from Jeshua (Jesus) to us in the modern day, to evolved minds that would now understand his teachings and messages which were often distorted and misunderstood for the very reasons mentioned in the above quote. Fear, anger, guilt, and projection.

Today is Good Friday in Christendom. Having been one who faithfully venerated the “weapon for assault”, the cross, every Good Friday, stopping to kiss it during the Liturgy in my Roman Catholic parishes I attended in my twenties and as a teenager, I focused on the solemn occasion of Jeshua’s death crucifixion and what I was taught that it meant. It was a “loving sacrifice” that he endured for us terrible sinners, who were lost without the ransom he paid through his suffering. For many Christians, the crucifixion was the Atonement, or the act of reconciling with God.

This is upside-down thinking, says Jeshua in ACIM. In my current understanding and belief, I tend to believe Jeshua (who I think authored and transmitted A Course in Miracles – you certainly don’t have to believe that to be reading this) when he says that the road to crucifixion was the “last useless journey” and that we should not “cling to the old rugged cross”, for our Atonement was set in action for us not by the act of being slaughtered like an innocent lamb, but through the Resurrection from the tomb where his earthly body was laid, where he proved that Love is stronger than fear of the egoic thought system.

People were afraid of Jeshua’s message would mean for their lives. That they would have to love, even in the face of being killed and maimed. The message Jeshua tries to get across to us in works such as A Course In Miracles and The Way of Mastery, is that there is no death and that we cannot be attacked, if we simply shift into the True Perception or Christ Vision that shows us only love, where we teach only love.

We crucify Jeshua over and over and do the same to ourselves when we are fearful and project our guilt that we carry with us. The message he, as a wisdom teacher, wanted us to realize, is that we are innocent, as was he. Innocent and strong. Even when we are being attacked. And when we know this, we can be defenseless, and in the midst of pain and even torture, we can feel love for our persecutors or those who “seem” to be attacking us. We can’t really be attacked or crucified, although many of you would argue from life experiences that this statement simply isn’t true. Pain feels too real. And it hurts.

Can you look into the eyes of another, who may be driving a nail through your wrist, with the eyes of love. Jeshua (Jesus) did. And that is what we must do. To RISE above the world and ego’s thinking that we are victims who have every right to be angry and afraid, and to be resurrected before the body dies and is laid aside. This means we have to have a major shift in our thinking. It is possible. We need but allow it to happen in our minds. By choosing only love in all instances, especially when it feels like we are being crucified. Especially then.

“Teach only love, for that is what you are.”

That may seem impossible, but it is something we should strive to attain and do. And we can. When we awaken to the truth of our being, that we are the Christ as is everyone else in this world, that we are all one and united, that nothing, not even our perceptions based on fear can separate us from one another.

So, I urge you to take a step back, this Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday and look through the Higher Mind in you, where you know that, you too are forever innocent, that you, like me, may merely make mistakes that can be corrected, and that we have nothing to feel guilty about. When we do atone, or make right (undo) our perceptions of fear, transforming them into love, we too will be resurrected from the tomb of the ego thought system of death and guilt.

Jeshua may not have died to save us from our so called “sins”, but he did die, loving humanity and every soul that the Divine ever created. Most of all, he showed us a “better way”. So, it’s time that we come down off the cross, stop crucifying ourselves and even more, gently help our fellow brothers and sisters down from theirs by forgiving them of what they really never did wrong at all.
